Support Services

Woodley House enables Washington, DC residents with mental health disorders to live full and healthy lives with dignity by providing supportive housing and services.

services

Woodley House offers a range of services, including recovery support services for our residents who experience a substance use disorder, co-occurring with their mental health disorder. We believe that an integrated service approach serves those with co-occurring disorders best.

Our Support Services staff also offer critical life skills training to our residents, providing the opportunity to gain skills lost due to their illness or further develop skills to transition toward increased independence. Life skills training can include: personal hygiene and healthy lifestyles, budgeting and financial management, cooking and nutrition, general housekeeping and apartment maintenance, job search readiness, medication education and symptom management, anger management, self-esteem and being a good roommate/tenant.

Residents also regularly meet individually and in groups with Recovery Support Specialists to achieve their personal goals.

Our Food Pantry is open to the public every Tuesday afternoon and provides food staples, frozen meat, and fresh produce to Woodley House residents and our community neighbors in need.

LIFE SKILLS TRAINING

Mental Health Life Skills Training (known as Mental Health Rehabilitation Services – MHRS) provides a lifeline for adults living with mental illness who are working toward greater independence in continuing their recovery. Woodley House residents receive MHRS support to teach critical life skills including personal hygiene and healthy lifestyles, budgeting and financial management, cooking and nutrition, general housekeeping and apartment maintenance, job search readiness, medication education and symptom management, anger management, self-esteem and being a good roommate/tenant. Residents meet with Recovery Support Specialists, both individually and in groups.

Although originally created for residents of Woodley House, our Life Skills Training is also available for other members of the community on a case-by-case basis. Our Recovery Support Specialists work with clients to master skills to achieve their personal goals, meeting them in their homes or any convenient location.

Mary Margaret Valenti Scholarship

Ann-at-podium

The Woodley House Mary Margaret Valenti Scholarship supports the professional development of people enrolled in, or who have recently completed, the DC Department of Behavioral Health’s Certified Peer Specialist Certification Program. This program trains those with ‘lived experience’ in recovery from mental illness and/or substance use disorder to be certified to assist peers in their recovery and wellness.

SCHOLARSHIP RELAUNCH

Launched in 2019, the Mary Margaret Valenti Scholarship was awarded to five extraordinary individuals to support their time in the Department of Behavioral Health Peer Support Certification Program or as they seek employment.

Due to the pandemic, the program was put on hold in 2020.

Thankfully DBH relaunched the program in July of this year. We will once again be awarding scholarships this fall!
