What We Do

Woodley House provides dignified housing and personalized mental health supportive services for District of Columbia residents, with homes and programs located across the District. Founded in 1958, Woodley House has enabled tens of thousands of Washingtonians to access mental health care and live independently in our communities.

Call Woodley House at 202-830-3508 or complete our Contact Form to learn more about our programs.

For immediate assistance, call 988, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or (888)7WE-HELP, D.C.’s 24/7 Access HelpLine.

Crisis Stabilization

Crossing Place is our therapeutic, short-term group home for adults experiencing a mental health crisis. Located in Woodley Park, Crossing Place opened in 1977 as one of the country’s first community-based alternatives to hospitalization.

Crossing Place residents must be over the age of 18, voluntary and appropriate for outpatient services, able to maintain safety of self and others, and not in need of medical detoxification or inpatient medical care.

Group Homes

Holly House and Valenti House are our long-term group homes, offering 24-hour on-site support, three meals daily, and personalized life skills training. Both homes offer a warm, dignified environment for men and women on their journey of recovery from mental health disorders.

Valenti House originally opened in 1958 as our flagship program, and has helped thousands of Washingtonians achieve stability, gain independence, and reintegrate into the community. The home in Woodley Park is named in honor of Mary Margaret Valenti, a former board member and great champion of Woodley House.

Supported Independent Living

Woodley House’s Supported Independent Living (SIL) program offers shared apartments for single adults who can benefit from ongoing case management services. Our SIL housing provides an affordable, safe, and substance-free environment for adults on their journey of recovery from mental health challenges.

The SIL program includes our Cornerstone House as well as apartments located across D.C.’s wards 1, 3, 4 and 8. Our Terry-Pincus Apartments offer an innovative model with both shared apartments and on-site staff.

Permanent Supportive Housing

Woodley House is a certified provider of Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) services in the District of Columbia. PSH is an evidence-based solution for chronic homelessness, combining rent support (in the form of a housing voucher) with intensive, ongoing case management to ensure stability.

With our expansion into PSH, Woodley House is now able to provide support services for families with children for the first time in our organization’s history.
