“More Than A Home”: A Poem by Woodley House Staff

April 17, 2026: Woodley House’s annual all-staff meeting is always a wonderful opportunity to see all our colleagues face-to-face, reorient ourselves to our mission, recognize milestones, and have some fun.

This year, we had an extra-special treat: the debut of a beautiful original poem written by our very own Kenyatte Wanzor, manager of our Permanent Supportive Housing program. Kenyatte and the PSH team presented “More Than A Home,” an ode to how a stable home can change lives.

As the poem describes, the search for a new home often includes uncertainties. But at Woodley House, we know the journey is worth it. Thanks to Kenyatte and the PSH case managers for all they do every day, helping our clients find “a place where hope and strength reside.”

More Than A Home
by Kenyatte Wanzor and the PSH team

A door once closed, now open wide,
A place where hope and strength reside.
Through winding paths and nights unsure,
A steady hand, a path secure.

Not just a key, not just a space,
But dignity no one can erase.
A roof, a chance, a place to heal,
A moment life begins to feel real.

With every step, support stands near,
Through silent doubt and hidden fear.
Case notes written, visits made,
In every effort, lives are saved.

More than housing—it’s a start,
A bridge rebuilt, a mending heart.
From surviving days to planning years,
From heavy burdens to lighter tears.

So here we stand, both strong and true,
Building futures, something new.
In every story, courage shown—
A place to live, a place called home.
